Unbeaten Georgia remained atop this week’s College Football Playoff poll, followed by Alabama, Notre Dame, Clemson and Oklahoma as the top 5 remained unchanged.
However, a pair of big upsets did jumble the spots behind them. Following losses by Ohio State and Penn State, TCU rose two spots to No. 6 – still ahead of a pair of unbeatens from major conferences in Miami (No. 7) and Wisconsin (No. 8). The Hurricanes, who play host to Notre Dame on Saturday, surpassed the Badgers.
There is some debate as to whether Wisconsin could finish undefeated and still not reach the CFP, but Saturday will likely eliminate at least two teams ahead of the Badgers with Oklahoma also playing host to TCU.
Washington is the top-ranked team from the Pac-12 at No. 9, with Auburn rounding out the top 10.
Southern Cal is No. 11, followed by Michigan State, which rose 12 spots following its upset over Penn State after a 3 1/2-hour weather delay. The Nittany Lions are No. 13 and Ohio State No. 14 after both schools suffered their second losses of the season.
Oklahoma State fell four spots to No. 15 after its dramatic loss to Oklahoma in the Bedlam battle that saw the rivals rack up 114 combine points. Mississippi is No. 16, followed by Virginia Tech.
Central Florida remains the highest-ranked school outside of the Group of 5 at No. 18, followed by Washington State and Iowa, which makes its first appearance in the rankings this season after routing Ohio State at home.
Iowa State fell six spots to No. 21 after its loss at West Virginia. Memphis, NC State, LSU and Northwestern round out the Top 25.
