Dave Joerger has the Sacramento Kings off to an 8-8 start, but the coach’s job could be in jeopardy.
The Kings’ front office is unhappy with Joerger’s use — or lack thereof — of No. 2 overall pick Marvin Bagley III and other young players, according to Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes, who reported the team could part ways with the coach over the impasse.
Sacramento brass would reportedly like to see Bagley, who has yet to make a start this season, getting more than the 22 minutes per game he is currently averaging off the bench.
Joerger has started 30-year-old Nemanja Bjelica at power forward in place of Bagley, with the Serbian delivering an average of 11.3 points and 5.4 rebounds in 25.4 minutes per game.
Bagley has averaged 11.9 points and 5.7 rebounds in 22.6 minutes. He had 16 points and eight rebounds in Saturday night’s blowout loss to the Houston Rockets.
Bjelica finished with two points and one rebound in 13:45 of court time.
The loss was the Kings’ fifth over their past seven games, putting a damper on a 6-3 start to the season.
The front office reportedly would also like to see young prospects Skai Labissiere and Harry Giles playing more.
