NASCAR is moving up the start time for Sunday's Food City 500 as storms threaten to derail the race altogether.

The race, originally slated to start at 2 p.m. ET, will start at 1 p.m. instead as officials try to get the race in before a threatened thunderstorm hits the Bristol, Tenn. track.

Weather services predict close to 100 percent chance of thunderstorms Sunday afternoon, with a 60 percent chance in the evening. The race would be rescheduled for Monday if it is postponed.

Monday has a 40 percent chance of showers until 2 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

NASCAR can rule a race complete as long as 50 percent of the laps have been run.

Kyle Busch starts from the pole for Sunday's race, should it be run. His brother, Kurt, had won the second starting spot but a crash in practice will send him to the back of the field.
