Mariners 3B Seager will undergo hand surgery

Seattle Mariners third baseman Kyle Seager will undergo surgery on his left hand and be sidelined at least through April, manager Scott Servais told reporters on Monday.
Seager will have tendons in the hand repaired, according to Servais.
Servais didn’t have a definitive timetable for Seager’s return.
The tendon issues were diagnosed after Seager was examined by a hand specialist.
Seager was injured during Friday’s game against the Chicago Cubs when he jammed his glove into the ground while diving for a grounder hit by Javier Baez of the Chicago Cubs.
Seager underwent X-rays, which came back negative, prior to the decision to see a hand specialist.
Seager, 31, batted a career-worst .221 last season when he had 22 homers and 78 RBIs. He has hit 20 or more homers in seven straight seasons and has a total of 175 with the Mariners.
The Mariners open the season against the Oakland Athletics in Japan on March 20 and 21.
