Alex Ovechkin, Steven Stamkos, P.K. Subban and Connor McDavid will serve as captains for the NHL All-Star Game on Jan. 28 in Tampa, Fla., the NHL announced Wednesday night.
Each player earned the distinction by leading his division in fan voting. Ovechkin will captain the Metropolitan Division, Stamkos will captain the Atlantic Division, Subban will captain the Central Division and McDavid will captain the Pacific Division.
This is the ninth All-Star Game selection for Ovechkin, who leads the NHL with 26 goals and is first on the Washington Capitals with 43 points. Stamkos will appear in his fifth All-Star Game and his first in front of the Tampa Bay Lightning’s home crowd.
Subban will play in his third consecutive All-Star contest, including the past two with the Nashville Predators. McDavid, the 20-year-old star center for the Edmonton Oilers, will return to the All-Star Game for the second season in a row.
The remainder of the All-Star rosters, to be chosen by the league, will be announced Jan. 10.
