The Boston Red Sox placed right-hander Steven Wright on the 10-day disabled list with left knee inflammation prior to Tuesday’s game against the Los Angeles Angels.
The move is retroactive to Saturday.
Boston recalled right-hander Justin Haley from Triple-A Pawtucket in a corresponding move. Haley pitched two scoreless innings on June 13 against Baltimore in his Boston debut.
Wright is 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA in 10 appearances (four starts) for the Red Sox this season. He had a 24 2/3-inning scoreless streak earlier this season, the team’s longest since Koji Uehara had a streak of 30 1/3 in 2013.
Wright made just five starts in 2017 before undergoing season-ending surgery on the left knee. He missed the beginning of this season and made his debut on May 15 against the Oakland Athletics.
The knuckleballer was torched for 10 runs and 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings by Seattle in his last turn, more than doubling his ERA, which previously sat at 1.23
Haley is 4-6 with a 3.06 ERA in 12 starts for Pawtucket.
