The Oakland Athletics agreed to a two-year, $10 million contract with right-handed reliever Yusmeiro Petit, his agent told The Athletic on Thursday.
The deal is pending a physical. Petit would earn $3.5 million next year and $5.5 million in 2019, with a $5.5 million option for 2020 with a $1 million buyout.
Petit, 33, had a 2.76 ERA while pitching 91 1/3 innings in 60 appearances for the Los Angeles Angels last season, when he earned $2.25 million. The 10-year veteran has also played for the Nationals, Giants, Diamondbacks and Marlins over his career.
For his career, Petit has a 4.31 ERA with six saves and a 566-160 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
The Maracaibo, Venezuela native made his major league debut with the Florida Marlins in 2006. In signing with the A’s, Petit returns to the Bay Area. He pitched for the Giants from 2012-15, winning two World Series titles.
