St. John’s will be without second-leading scorer Marcus LoVett for the remainder of the season because of a left knee injury, the school announced Wednesday.
LoVett suffered the injury during a game in late November and had not played since. Team physicians made the decision to shut him down after he was unable to progress in on-court basketball activities.
“Marcus has a bright future ahead, so while it is disappointing that he will miss the remainder of the season, his long term health is the primary focus,” St. John’s head coach Chris Mullin said in a statement.
LoVett, a sophomore guard, averaged 14.9 points in starting the Red Storm’s first seven games this season.
St. John’s is 10-7 overall and 0-5 since Big East conference play began.
