The Minnesota Twins informed left-handed reliever Glen Perkins that they will decline their $6.5 million club option on his contract for 2018.
Perkins will instead receive a $700,000 buyout. Perkins, 34, will become a free agent, but the three-time All-Star has said that he is not interested in pitching anywhere else.
Perkins was a 2004 first-round pick by the Twins after playing at Stillwater High School outside of the Twins Cities and going on to play for the University of Minnesota. He is third on the team’s all-time saves list with 120, including 118 from 2012-16, but has been limited to 10 games over the past two seasons due to shoulder issues.
Perkins returned to the bullpen Aug. 17 after a 16-month rehabilitation program following left shoulder labrum surgery.
