The Vancouver Whitecaps announced Friday the club acquired midfielder Jordon Mutch on a one-year loan from English Premier League club Crystal Palace FC with an option to purchase.
The 26-year-old Mutch is Vancouver’s 10th addition of the offseason as the Whitecaps continue preparations for Sunday’s MLS season opener at home against the Montreal Impact at BC Place.
Mutch will be added to Vancouver’s roster pending receipt of his international transfer certificate, Canadian work permit and visa.
He has 10 years of experience and more than 200 matches at the top levels in England, including 78 appearances in the English Premier League.
In total, Mutch recorded 17 goals and added 26 assists in 206 matches in all competitions. He scored 10 goals in the English Football League Championship and seven in the English Premier League, including three against Liverpool FC and one against Chelsea FC.
“Jordon is a top midfielder who has played at the highest level,” Whitecaps head coach Carl Robinson said in a statement. “He’s played against the Chelseas, Arsenals, and Manchester Uniteds and now he wants to prove himself again in a new environment. He likes to get forward, he’s full of energy, and he’s in the prime of his career. We’re delighted to have him here.”
