Villanova leaps over Michigan State to No. 1 in AP Top 25

Villanova claimed the top spot in the AP Top 25 while Arizona State jumped 11 spots following a week in which half of the top-10 teams lost.

The Wildcats (10-0) earned 41 of 65 first-place votes to move from fourth to No. 1, surpassing the favorites for the top spot, Michigan State. The Spartans (9-1) received 19 first-place votes, moving from third to second as previously unanimous No. 1 Duke (11-1) slipped to No. 4 following its loss at Boston College.

Wichita State (8-1) moved from sixth to third, while Arizona State rounded out the top five — and claimed the five remaining first-place votes — after beating then-No. 2 Kansas. The Sun Devils’ (9-0) jump from No. 16 is the largest single-week improvement by any team in the Top 25 this season.

The Jayhawks slipped from second to 13th after consecutive losses.
