Chicago White Sox prospect Luis Robert will miss approximately 10 weeks after spraining a ligament in his left thumb in a spring training game on Wednesday.
Robert, a highly regarded center fielder from Cuba, injured the thumb sliding into second base in a Cactus League game against the Cincinnati Reds.
The White Sox revealed the update on Saturday.
Robert, 20, signed with White Sox last May, earning a $26 million signing bonus. He defected from Cuba just a few months earlier.
He was in spring training with the MLB club, though he was expected to start the season at Class-A.
This spring, he had 3 hits in 10 at-bats in limited play, including a grand slam in the eighth inning on Wednesday.
