Concussion symptoms continue to affect Wisconsin quarterback Alex Hornibrook, who will not play in the Pinstripe Bowl against Miami.
The Badgers’ third-year starter will be replaced by Jack Coan in the Dec. 27 game at Yankee Stadium.
Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst said Thursday that Hornibrook participated in more than two weeks of preparation for the Hurricanes before his symptoms returned.
Hornibrook was first diagnosed with a head injury on Oct. 27. He returned to the lineup for the regular-season finale against Minnesota after Coan started two games.
Coan, a sophomore, has played in four games, meaning he would lose the ability to redshirt if he starts the bowl game.
“We didn’t go into this season saying we want to redshirt (Coan),” Chryst said. “We went into this season saying we want your snaps to be meaningful.”
Chryst said it was not the time to discuss Hornibrook’s future or further evaluate his recovery and treatment from the initial concussion.
