Yankees select Aaron Boone as manager

Aaron Boone will be the next manager of the New York Yankees.

The Yankees did not confirm the decision but multiple outlets reported the move was imminent, citing source close to Boone and the Yankees.

Boone, who helped the Yankees to a 2003 World Series title with a walk-off home run in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series against the Boston Red Sox, was recommended to owner Hal Steinbrenner by general manager Brian Cashman. Boone has served as a baseball analyst for ESPN.

Cashman interviewed six candidates in a process that lasted more than a month. The field included recently retired Carlos Beltran, San Francisco Giants bench coach Hensley Meulens, Yankees coach Rob Thomson, Dodgers coach Chris Woodward and former Indians and Mariners manager Eric Wedge.
