BetBoom Team wins twice to open Riydah Masters group stage

BetBoom Team opened the Group Stage of the Riyadh Masters with a pair of wins on Friday.

BetBoom beat Tundra Esports and Shopify Rebellion to take the top spot in Group B at 2-0-0, while Talon Esports and Team Aster each picked up a win and a draw in the group.

In Group A, Evil Geniuses and PSG.LGD are tied for first with a win and a draw apiece.

The $15 million Riyadh Masters features 20 teams, eight of which qualified directly to the group stage.

The Group Stage began Friday and features two groups of eight teams. Those matches are best-of-two in a single round-robin format. The top four teams advance to the upper bracket of the playoffs, while the fifth- and sixth-place teams from each group advance to the lower bracket. The remaining teams are eliminated.

The playoffs are from July 25-30 and will be double elimination. All matches are best-of-three except for the grand final, which is best-of-five.

The winning team pockets $5 million with $2.5 million going to the runner-up.

On Friday, BetBoom, coming off a second-place showing at last month’s DreamLeague Season 20, beat Tundra in 60 minutes on red and 45 minutes on green. They went on to handle Shopify Rebellion in 34 minutes on green and 42 minutes on red.

Talon and Aster each earned their wins against Team Secret — Talon with two 33-minute wins on green, Aster with a 69-minute win on green and a 40-minute triumph on red.

Evil Geniuses beat 9Pandas in 33 minutes and 37 minutes, both on green, to earn their mark in the win column. PSG.LGD prevailed in 40 minutes on green and 28 minutes on red to beat OG.

Play-in action continues on Friday with 16 more matches, eight in Group A and eight in Group B.
