Matt Boldy scored the decisive goal in a shootout, lifting the Minnesota Wild to a 3-2 win over the Avalanche on Friday afternoon in Saint Paul, Minn., ending Colorado’s 10-game winning streak.
Kirill Kaprizov scored both goals in regulation for Minnesota, which won its seventh game in a row. Mats Zuccarello also scored during the shootout round for the Wild.
Nathan MacKinnon scored his league-leading 19th goal and added an assist for Colorado. Martin Necas scored the lone goal during the shootout round for the Avalanche, who earned one point in the standings by forcing the game to overtime.
Wild goaltender Jesper Wallstedt stopped 39 of 41 shots in regulation and overtime, and he turned aside two of three attempts in the shootout round. Avalanche goaltender Scott Wedgewood saved 35 of 37 shots in regulation and overtime, but he stopped only one of three attempts in the final round.
Ducks 5, Kings 4 (SO)
Leo Carlsson scored the game-tying goal with 1:31 remaining in the third period and Troy Terry and Mason McTavish converted in the shootout, lifting host Anaheim to a victory over Los Angeles.
Terry tucked the puck between the pads of Darcy Kuemper in the shootout and McTavish also tallied for the Ducks, who concluded a six-game homestand with a 4-2-0 record. Ville Husso was perfect in the shootout and finished with 23 saves in his first NHL game this season. Chris Kreider scored a power-play goal and defensemen Olen Zellweger and Pavel Mintyukov also tallied for the Ducks.
Alex Laferriere, Kevin Fiala, Alex Turcotte and defenseman Joel Edmundson each scored a goal and Kuemper made 27 saves for the Kings, who have lost four of their last five games (1-1-3).
Flyers 4, Islanders 3 (SO)
Trevor Zegras and Travis Konecny scored in the shootout as Philadelphia recovered from blowing a three-goal lead to post a victory over host New York in Elmont.
With the win, Philadelphia remained perfect at 5-0 in shootouts this season. Tyson Foerster, Sean Couturier and Zegras scored in regulation for the Flyers, with Ersson making 28 saves before his shootout heroics.
Emil Heineman, Matthew Schaefer and Anders Lee scored in regulation for New York, while David Rittich made 18 saves. Simon Holmstrom tallied the lone shootout goal for the Islanders.
Penguins 4, Blue Jackets 3 (OT)
Defenseman Kris Letang scored 59 seconds into overtime to give Pittsburgh a come-from-behind win over host Columbus.
Letang also had an assist. Sidney Crosby netted two goals and Bryan Rust the other for the Penguins, who won for the third time in eight games (3-2-3). Tommy Novak had two assists, and Tristan Jarry made 26 saves.
Defenseman Zach Werenski had a goal and an assist and Sean Monahan and Brendan Gaunce also scored for the Blue Jackets, who have blown third-period leads in three of their last four games (0-1-3). Columbus goalie Jet Greaves stopped 20 shots. Eight of his past nine starts have gone into overtime, and he is 4-0-5 in that span.
Capitals 4, Maple Leafs 2
Jakob Chychrun scored the go-ahead goal at 16:04 of the third period and Washington rallied to defeat visiting Toronto.
Chychrun has scored in five straight games. The Capitals scored three times in the third period, including Tom Wilson’s goal into an empty net, to overcome a 2-0 deficit. Connor McMichael and Wilson each had a goal and an assist for the Capitals, who have won three straight. Anthony Beauvillier scored the tying goal for Washington.
Morgan Rielly and Matthew Knies scored for the Maple Leafs, who have lost two of three to start a six-game road trip. Joseph Woll was again superb, stopping 30 shots.
Sharks 3, Canucks 2
Adam Gaudette scored with 4:43 remaining in the second period and that was the difference for host San Jose against Vancouver.
Gaudette’s goal, his sixth of the year, was the second of two goals in a 1:14 span that flipped the game in San Jose’s favor. Will Smith and William Eklund both scored power-play goals, and Macklin Celebrini assisted on both that came on the man-advantage.
Brock Boeser and Elias Pettersson tallied goals for the Canucks, who have lost four of their last five. Conor Garland, Filip Hronek, Evander Kane and Tom Willander all added assists. Nikita Tolopilo stopped 21 shots in his fourth NHL start, but the Belarusian made a critical error in saving Gaudette’s goal. Tolopilo caught it, but a replay showed the netminder’s glove ventured past the goal line.
Lightning 6, Red Wings 3
Yanni Gourde scored two unassisted goals and Tampa Bay stretched its winning streak to six games by doubling up host Detroit.
Darren Raddysh had one goal and two assists and Jake Guentzel contributed a goal and an assist. Gage Goncalves and Brandon Hagel added goals, while Nikita Kucherov extended his point streak to eight games with a pair of assists. Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 33 shots.
J.T. Compher, Michael Rasmussen and Dylan Larkin scored goals for the Red Wings, while John Gibson made 22 saves.
Rangers 6, Bruins 2
Led by Artemi Panarin’s four-point game, visiting New York scored two goals in each period to hold off Boston.
Panarin registered one goal and three assists, while Mika Zibanejad netted two power-play goals in a 45-second span in the second period to extend New York’s lead to 4-0. Vladislav Gavrikov, Carson Soucy and Alexis Lafreniere also tallied for the Rangers.
Casey Mittelstadt and Morgan Geekie scored goals and Joonas Korpisalo made 30 saves for the Bruins, who played without leading forwards David Pastrnak and Pavel Zacha due to day-to-day injuries.
Canadiens 4, Golden Knights 1
Sam Montembeault made 30 saves to lead Montreal to a victory over Vegas in Las Vegas.
Cole Caufield, Zack Bolduc and Juraj Slafkovsky each had a goal and an assist and Jake Evans also scored for Montreal, which won its third straight game.
Mark Stone scored a goal and Akira Schmid stopped 15 of 18 shots for Vegas, which suffered its fourth straight loss and ninth in last 13 games.
Devils 5, Sabres 0
Jake Allen made 42 saves for the shutout and Arseny Gritsyuk had two goals as New Jersey beat host Buffalo. Allen achieved his first shutout of the season, marking his third-highest save total among his 29 career NHL shutouts.
Brenden Dillon and Paul Cotter each had a goal and an assist for the Devils and Ondrej Palat added two assists. Nico Hischier recorded New Jersey’s other goal to extend his scoring streak to four games.
The Sabres were held scoreless for the third time this season, despite a 42-23 edge in shots. Buffalo goalie Alex Lyon stopped only 18 of 23 shots.
Flames 5, Panthers 3
Nazem Kadri had a goal and two assists, Yan Kuznetsov notched his first career goal, and Calgary won for the second time in the first three games of its five-game road swing with a victory in Sunrise, Fla.
MacKenzie Weegar, Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee hit the net for the Flames, who have games at the Carolina Hurricanes and Nashville Predators left on the trip. The Flames started backup goalie Devin Cooley and the 28-year-old responded with 37 saves.
Evan Rodrigues, Sam Bennett and Brad Marchand tallied as the Panthers lost for the third time in four games (1-3-0). Sam Reinhart had two assists. Backup goaltender Daniil Tarasov made 29 saves.
Stars 4, Mammoth 3
Wyatt Johnston scored the eventual game-winner on a 5-on-3 power play in the second period as Dallas topped visiting Utah.
Roope Hintz, Jamie Benn and Jason Robertson also scored for the Stars, who improved to 9-1-1 in its past 11 games. Miro Heiskanen and Mikko Rantanen each had two assists as Dallas improved to 4-0-1 in its past five contests. Dallas improved to 4-1-0 all-time against Utah as Jake Oettinger made 27 saves to move to 11-4-2 on the season.
Logan Cooley, Kevin Rooney and Jack McBain were the goal scorers for the Mammoth, who dropped to 1-5-2 in their past eight on the road. John Marino had a pair of assists, and Vitek Vanecek stopped 24 shots.
Blues 4, Senators 3
Matthew Kessel scored the decisive goal as St. Louis held off visiting Ottawa.
Oskar Sundqvist, Jordan Kyrou and Pavel Buchnevich also scored for the Blues, who have earned a point in five of their last six games (2-1-3). Jordan Binnington made 25 saves.
Shane Pinto, Fabian Zetterlund and David Perron scored and Leevi Merilainen made 27 saves for the Senators, who are 3-2-0 on their seven-game road trip. Brady Tkachuk, who had been sidelined by a thumb injury, earned an assist in his first game since Oct. 13.
Hurricanes 5, Jets 1
Seth Jarvis scored a hat trick as Carolina defeated the visiting Jets, its second victory over Winnipeg in eight days.
Jordan Martinook and Alexander Nikishin also had goals for the Hurricanes, and Shayne Gostisbehere and Andrei Svechnikov each collected two assists. Carolina goalie Brandon Bussi made 12 stops.
Mark Scheifele scored the only goal for the Jets, assisted by Gabriel Vilardi. Thomas Milic, making his NHL debut in net, turned away 30 shots.
Predators 4, Blackhawks 3
Chicago’s recent struggles continued as Nashville held on for a road victory.
Steven Stamkos, Luke Evangelista, and Ryan O’Reilly each had a goal and an assist, Matthew Wood also scored and Jusse Saros finished with 24 saves for the Predators, who won their second game in a row.
Arvid Soderblom stopped 25 shots while Ryan Donato, Ryan Greene, and Teuvo Teravainen tallied for the Blackhawks, who have lost straight (0-4-1).
