Top-seeded Casper Ruud of Norway and No. 2 Taylor Fritz recorded victories Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Gonet Geneva Open in Geneva, Switzerland.
Ruud made quick work of J.J. Wolf 6-3, 7-5, while Fritz needed to rally past countryman Marcos Giron 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 in one hour and 58 minutes. Fritz served up eight aces and won 70.7 percent of his first serves to advance.
No. 6 seed Tallon Griekspoor of Netherland withdrew from the event, giving Chile’s Nicolas Jarry the win in a walkover. It’s unclear why Griekspoor forfeited the match. Also, No. 7 Bernabe Zapata Miralles of Spain was forced to retire in the second set, trailing Australia’s Christopher O’Connell 6-0, 3-0.
Ilya Ivashka of Belarus upended No. 8 Adrian Mannarino of France 6-4, 4-6, 6-3. Fourth-seeded Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov cruised past Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena 6-1, 6-4.

Top-seeded Felix Auger-Aliassime was among four seeded players who advanced to the quarterfinals in Lyon, France.
Auger-Aliassime won 82.5 percent of his first serves to defeat qualifier Pablo Llamas Ruiz of Spain 7-5, 6-2. The Canadian will play Frenchman Arthur Fils in the quarters. Fils was awarded his match when Swede Mikael Ymer was disqualified for smashing his racquet on the umpire’s chair during a dispute over a line call late in the first set.
Second-seeded Brit Cameron Norrie dispatched Belgium’s David Goffin 6-3, 6-4. No. 3 Tommy Paul needed two hours and 36 minutes to defeat Gregoire Barrere of France 7-6 (6), 4-6, 6-3. No. 6 seed Sebastian Baez of Argentina rallied to defeat countryman Pedro Cachin 3-6, 7-5, 6-2.
