Baylor stays at No. 1, Louisville drops in AP Top 25

Louisville plummeted in the latest Associated Press Top 25 rankings, released Monday, while Baylor, Gonzaga, Kansas and undefeated San Diego State maintained the top four spots.

The Cardinals (21-5) entered play last week ranked No. 5 but fell to No. 11 after road losses to unranked Atlantic Coast Conference foes Georgia Tech and Clemson.

Dayton (23-2) climbed one spot to No. 5, followed in the top 10 by Duke (22-3), Maryland (21-4), Florida State (21-4), Penn State (20-5) and Kentucky (20-5).

The Nittany Lions rose four spots to No. 9 — matching their highest-ever ranking with the 1995-96 and 1953-54 teams.

Baylor (23-1) captured 48 of 63 first-place votes, with Gonzaga (26-1) receiving 14 and Kansas (22-3) the remaining vote.

The top five could look vastly different next week, however. Baylor and Kansas will meet Saturday in Waco, Texas, in a Big 12 battle, a rematch of the Bears’ 67-55 victory on Jan. 11 in Lawrence, Kan.

BYU (21-7) moved into the poll at No. 23 after wins at San Diego and Loyola Marymount and will host Santa Clara and Gonzaga this week. Arizona (18-7) and Ohio State (17-8) moved back into the bottom two spots in the top 25.

Dropping out of the poll were Texas Tech, Illinois and LSU.
