No. 1 Baylor strengthens hold atop AP Top 25 poll

No. 1 Baylor remained atop the Associated Press Top 25 poll for the third straight week, with the top four unchanged.

The Bears (19-1) received 49 of 65 first-place votes in the latest poll, released Monday afternoon. That’s up from 44 first-place votes last week.

No. 2 Gonzaga (23-1) earned 15 first-place votes, with No. 3 Kansas (18-3) receiving the final vote. San Diego State, the last remaining unbeaten Division I team at 23-0, stayed at No. 4.

Last week’s No. 5, Florida State (18-3) fell to No. 8 after a loss to unranked Virginia on Tuesday and was replaced in the No. 5 spot by Louisville (19-3).

Dayton (20-2) moved up a spot to No. 6, followed by Duke (18-3) at No. 7. Maryland and Villanova, both 17-4, are ranked Nos. 9 and 10, respectively.

Auburn (19-2) climbed six spots to No. 11, making the Tigers the highest-ranked Southeastern Conference team in the poll, ahead of No. 15 Kentucky (16-5) and No. 18 LSU (17-4).

The Big Ten led the way with five teams in the Top 25.

Moving into the rankings were Creighton (17-5) at No. 21 and Arizona (17-6) at No. 23. Wichita State and Rutgers dropped out.
