Fueled by a strong third quarter, sports betting in the United States appears headed for a record year of revenue.
The American Gaming Association said the sports wagering market generated $2.15 billion in revenue in Q3, up 22.8 percent from 2022.
The growth was generated largely by the additions of Maryland, Nebraska, Ohio and Massachusetts into the sports betting business.
The AGA said the total for the year is up to $7.1 billion, a 51 percent spike over last year.
State coffers are reaping the benefits. The commercial gaming industry paid approximately $10.68 billion in gaming taxes through the first three quarters of the year, 9.9 percent more than 2022, according to the AGA.
