Bulls’ Tomas Satoransky tests positive for COVID-19

Tomas Satoransky

Guard Tomas Satoransky is the second Chicago Bulls player to test positive for COVID-19 in the past week.

Head coach Billy Donovan made the announcement with Satoransky’s approval prior to Sunday’s 118-109 win over the visiting Dallas Mavericks, according to NBC Sports.

Satoransky was one of three players who had been placed in quarantine as close contacts after forward Chandler Hutchison’s positive test on Thursday, along with forward Lauri Markkanen and guard Ryan Arcidiacono.

The teammates had apparently traveled together in a van from Washington, D.C., to Chicago following Thursday’s 133-130 victory against the Wizards.

Donovan said a member of Chicago’s support staff had also tested positive.

Surging Bulls now short-handed

The Bulls have won three of their last four games as they begin a four-game road trip Tuesday night in Portland.

Donovan expects the team to be short-handed throughout the weeklong trip.

“What happens when they get lifted, they get clearance, those types of things?” he said, per NBC Sports. “But you can anticipate that it’s probably going to be on the back end of that road trip, and then we would probably have to make sense out of is it worthwhile to potentially have them come out for one game.

“And they would probably have to take a public flight; do they actually get cleared to even be able to come there? But leaving (Monday) for Portland, I would anticipate right now that we would be without those guys.”

Satoransky, 29, is averaging 6.3 points, 6.0 assists and 2.3 rebounds in 22.7 minutes off the bench through three games.

Hutchison, 24, is averaging 3.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in four games.
