Report: Crew to acquire Nagbe from Atlanta

The Columbus Crew have agreed to acquire midfielder Darlington Nagbe from the Atlanta United, according to a report from The Athletic.

While terms of the deal were not disclosed, The Athletic’s Paul Tenorio reported Wednesday that the expected trade would bring a “significant haul” of allocation money.

Nagbe has spent two seasons with Atlanta after being acquired in a trade with the Portland Timbers in December 2017. The 29-year-old collected two goals and four assists in 33 matches this season and has 29 goals and 37 assists in 270 career games with the Timbers (2011-17) and United (2018-19).

A move to Columbus would bring the Liberia-born Nagbe back to the Buckeye State, where he attended both high school and college.

By joining the Crew, he would also be reunited with coach Caleb Porter, his former coach at the University of Akron (2008-10) as well as with the Timbers (2013-17).
