Kevin Durant will be on hand in March when the Oklahoma City Thunder retire the No. 4 jersey of his former teammate, Nick Collison, the Golden State star confirmed to ESPN. “That group was so special, that whole group from 2010 until I left there, it was special,” Durant said. “It’s about time for us to let go of all that extra stuff, and just come together — especially around this time, because it’s Nick.” Durant was with the franchise from 2007 until the end of the 2016 season, when he joined the Warriors in free agency. He is one of many former teammates of Collision who will attend the March 20 ceremony to recognize the 14 seasons he spent with the Seattle Sonics, then with the Thunder when the team relocated and adopted its new name. Durant was a teammate of Collison on four Thunder teams that went to the Western Conference finals and played in the NBA Finals in 2012, when Oklahoma City lost to the Miami Heat. Durant won the league MVP award following the 2013-14 season. Durant told ESPN he will be with the Warriors when they travel to Minneapolis to meet the Timberwolves on March 19, then fly to Oklahoma City for the event. He will return to Northern California in time for Golden State’s game against Indiana the following day. Collison retired at the end of the 2017-18 season.
