ESPN reducing Super Bowl LV presence amid COVID-19

ESPN, Super Bowl

With no relief from the COVID-19 pandemic in sight, ESPN began notifying its executives not to make travel plans for Super Bowl LV in February, Sportico reported Friday.

While the all-sports network is likely to have some presence at Tampa, Fla., its contingent of employees for coverage will be reduced and entertainment options leading into the game for executives and sponsors are expected to be nixed.

The Super Bowl is scheduled for Feb. 7 at Raymond James Stadium. The NFL has already given indications that the celebrations surrounding the game will be reduced.

Fans are expected to be allowed into the game but at 20 percent of capacity — or around 13,000-15,000 fans. The smallest crowd ever at a Super Bowl was for the first one in 1967, when 61,946 were on hand at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
