Florida St. mashes Boston College, 44-14

Trey Benson accounted for three touchdowns — including a 93-yard opening kickoff return — as host Florida State racked up 530 yards of offense en route to a 44-14 rout of Boston College in Tallahassee, Fla., on Saturday.

Benson rushed for 78 yards and two scores on 10 carries. Jordan Travis went 16-for-26 for 321 yards and one touchdown as the Seminoles (4-0, 2-0 ACC) continued their longest unbeaten start since 2015.

Treshaun Ward and Lawrance Toafili also rushed for scores. Kentron Poitier caught a 31-yard touchdown and Darion Williamson had 98 yards on five catches as eight Seminoles caught passes.

Florida State led 21-0 after the first quarter and 31-0 at halftime, logging 327 yards in the first half. BC managed just 64 yards in the first half.

The Eagles (1-3, 0-2) totaled 235 yards for the game. Phil Jurkovec and Emmett Morehead threw touchdowns to true freshmen Alex Broome and Joseph Griffin Jr., respectively.

Jurkovec finished 15-for-23 for 105 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Morehead, Broome and Griffin all logged their first career scores for BC.

Benson started with Florida State’s first kickoff return score since the 2014 BCS Championship victory over Auburn.

Not two minutes later, Toafili’s 1-yard run doubled the Florida State lead to 14-0.

After Omarion Cooper picked off Jurkovec’s second pass attempt, Travis completed a 32-yard pass to Camren McDonald on fourth-and-9 to extend the drive for a touchdown. Cooper has three interceptions in just 11 career games for the Seminoles.

Benson added a 15-yard score with 6:05 left in the first quarter.

Five seconds into the second, Ryan Fitzgerald’s 30-yard field goal made it a 24-0 game. The kick capped off Florida State’s second consecutive 10-play scoring drive.

Travis capped the first half with a bang as Poitier’s 31-yard reception capped a seven-play, 65-yard drive that lasted 48 seconds.

Florida State made it 37-0 when Ward made a 22-yard house call with 9:19 left in the third. Fitzgerald missed the PAT.

The Eagles got on the board with 3:31 left in the third as Jurkovec found Broome inching out from the backfield for a 5-yard reception.

In the fourth, Benson broke free from 36 yards.

Morehead found Griffin for a 4-yard score in the final minute for BC.
