Iowa big man Luka Garza has emerged as the betting favorite for the John R. Wooden Award, while Gonzaga is the favorite to win the NCAA Tournament, according to DraftKings Sportsbook.
Garza, a 6-foot-11 senior center, is the +150 betting favorite for the college basketball player of the year award, moving past Dayton forward Obi Toppin (+350), while Marquette’s high-scoring guard Markus Howard is right behind them (+500).
Garza has averaged 23.1 points with 9.9 rebounds for the 17-7 Hawkeyes, who are also 8-5 in Big Ten Conference play. Garza has scored at least 21 points in each of his last nine games and has recorded four double-digit rebound games in that stretch.
Gonzaga is the +800 betting favorite to win the national title at DraftKings, with Kansas next at +1000. Behind those two teams at +1100 is Duke and Baylor, the No. 1-ranked team in the country.
Gonzaga, ranked No. 2 in the nation, is 25-1 this season and 11-0 in West Coast Conference play. The Bulldogs are on a 17-game winning streak and have five regular-season games remaining before the WCC Tournament. Their only loss came against Michigan, 82-64 on Nov. 29.
