An unidentified member of the Georgia Tech traveling party tested positive for COVID-19, but the team’s participation in the NCAA Tournament won’t be affected, coach Josh Pastner said Tuesday.
The Yellow Jackets, the ninth seed in the Midwest Region, are set to play eighth-seeded Loyola Chicago on Friday. The positive test was discovered on intake in Indianapolis, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
Pastner would not reveal whether the person who tested positive was a player or a member of the coaching staff or support staff. That person is without symptoms and isolating and will not take part for the Yellow Jackets in the first round or the second round, should they advance.
The team “is good to move forward and we’re full throttle and ready to play Friday,” Pastner said.
The Yellow Jackets (17-8) defeated Florida State on Saturday to win the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament and earn an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament.
