  • Brandon Harkins is in the field after winning on the Korn Ferry Tour last week – his first victory in 179 career PGA Tour-sanctioned events.
  • Other sponsors exemptions include Dean Burmester, Chan Kim, Alex Cejka, Mark Baldwin, Austin Eckroat, John Murphy and Min Woo Lee.
  • Pebble Beach’s greens average 3,500 square feet, making them the smallest on the PGA Tour.

BEST BETS

  • Patrick Cantlay (+650 at BetMGM) is the only top-10 player in the field at No. 4. He finished T3 last year after tying the course record at Pebble Beach with an opening-round 62. He opened at +700 and Cantlay’s odds were as low as +600 before lengthening back to +650 on Wednesday.
  • Berger (+1100) is trying to become the first player to successfully defend since Dustin Johnson. He also finished T5 in 2020. Berger opened at +1600 at BetMGM but his odds shortened along with those of several other favorites following Zalatoris’ withdrawal.
  • Jason Day (+2000) hasn’t won since 2018 but played in the final group last week. He has 10 top 15s at Pebble Beach and six top-10s since 2014. He is second at BetMGM with 7.2 percent of the tickets and third with 9.4 percent of the handle backing him. Day is BetMGM’s second biggest liability in the field. He is being offered at +1800 at DraftKings, where he is second with 4 percent of the bets and 6 percent of the money backing the Australian.

  • Jordan Spieth (+2000), who won the event in 2017, finished T3 last year. He’s coming off a missed cut last week. Offered at +1600 at DraftKings, Spieth is third in the field with 5 percent of the money backing him.
  • Maverick McNealy (+2200), who was in contention last week, carded a final-round 66 last year while finishing runner-up for the first time on tour. He also finished T5 in 2020. He opened at +2800 at BetMGM but his odds have shortened dramatically as McNealy has been backed by 7.2 percent of the outright winner bets and 11.0 percent of the money. Both figures lead the field, making McNealy the book’s biggest liability. He is being offered at +2000 at DraftKings, where McNealy leads with 5 percent of the bets and 8 percent of the handle.
  • Justin Rose (+2500) is second at BetMGM with 9.5 percent of the outright winner money backing him. He’s coming off a T6 at Torrey Pines.
  • Kevin Streelman (+4000 at DraftKings) carries intriguing longshot odds that has drawn 5 percent of the outright winner handle at the sportsbook. He has a runner-up and a solo 13th at Pebble Beach the past two years along with a solo sixth in 2018.
