The Sanderson Farms Championship begins Thursday at the Country Club of Jackson in Mississippi.

It is the second event of the 2012-22 PGA Tour season, with Max Homa leading the FedEx Cup for the first time in his career following his win at the Fortinet Championship.

• Sergio Garcia is the lone participant from the Ryder Cup in the field this week. He earned his 11th career PGA Tour win at this event last year. Garcia is the only player among the past seven champions who had a tour win before claiming the Sanderson Farms title.
• The field includes seven of the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Ranking.
• The average winning score from the past five years is 19 under.
• Quade Cummins and Kyle Reifers are in the field after advancing in a 3-for-2 playoff in the Monday qualifier along with Wilson Furr.
• Former major winners in the field include Garcia, Keegan Bradley, Jimmy Walker, Lucas Glover and Gary Woodland.
• Former U.S. Amateur champion Andy Ogletree is in the field on a sponsors exemption.
• There are five Mississippi natives in the field: including 2021 Korn Ferry Tour graduates Davis Riley, Hayden Buckley and Chad Ramey.

BEST BETS

• No. 25 Sam Burns (+1400 at DraftKings) is the highest-ranked player in the event. He tied for third in 2018 and led the tour with five 36-hole leads last season.
• Corey Conners (+1600) has four top-20s in his past six starts and has eight top-10s in 2021.
• 2019 runner-up Sungjae Im (+1600) makes his fourth event start. Ranked 29th, Im led the tour in birdies for the third consecutive time last season.

• Reigning Rookie of the Year Will Zalatoris (+1600) is still seeking his maiden win on tour. He has been backed by 3 percent of the handle and 3 percent of the outright winner bets at DraftKings, as has former U.S. Open champion Woodland at +4500.
• Garcia (+2000) may need to battle fatigue following the Ryder Cup but posted four rounds of 68 or better at the CC of Jackson last year.
• Mito Pereira (+2800) is also seeking his first tour win. He has been backed by 17 percent of the handle and 8 percent of the Bets at DraftKings, which both lead at the book by a wide margin. Pereira is coming off a solo third at the Fortinet Championship and has three other top-6 finishes among his past six starts.

• Matthew Wolff (+4000) is making his season and event debut. He’s coming off a pair of missed cuts and will be competing for the first time since The Northern Trust, but is second at DraftKings with 4 percent of the handle and 5 percent of the total bets backing him.
• Cameron Davis (+4500) is the heaviest-backed player at DraftKings to lead after the first round with 8 percent of the handle. The action is based on some large wagers as Davis is responsible for only 1 percent of the total bets. He won earlier this year at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and finished T6 in this event last year.
• Peter Malnati’s (+10000) top two tour finishes came at the Sanderson Farms: his lone win in 2015 and a runner-up last year. All five of his top-25 finishes last season came within his first 10 starts.
