He’s back: Nets trumpet Kevin Durant’s return

Kevin Durant

The Brooklyn Nets confirmed star forward Kevin Durant will return to the lineup Wednesday night for the first time since Feb. 13.

The Nets won 19 of the 23 games Durant missed with a left hamstring injury.

Brooklyn hosts the New Orleans Pelicans at 7:30 p.m. ET.

“He’s back,” the Nets posted on Twitter, along with a video clip of the 11-time All-Star practicing with the team.

“The last month or so has just been me working out every day and playing here and there with my teammates, mainly just working out and trying to stay ready, keeping my stamina up and sharpening up my skills so I can transition back smoothly,” Durant says in the video, in part. “… It’s been too long for me. I’m just excited to get back out there.”

Durant, 32, is averaging 29.0 points per game to go along with 7.3 rebounds and 5.3 assists in 19 games during his first season as an active player for Brooklyn. He missed all of 2019-20 due to a ruptured right Achilles tendon.

The trio of Kyrie Irving, Harden and Durant has only played seven games together, yet the Nets were still tied atop the Eastern Conference with the Philadelphia 76ers through Tuesday with a 35-16 record.
