Driver James Hinchcliffe is returning to Andretti Autosport for three races in 2020.
The organization announced Wednesday that Hinchcliffe will drive the No. 29 Honda at the GMR Grand Prix at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course on May 9 and in the Texas 600 at Texas Motor Speedway (June 6). Sandwiched between them will be the 104th Indianapolis 500 on May 24.
This will mark Hinchcliffe's eighth appearance in the Indy 500. He finished in the top 10 twice, held the pole position in 2016 and started in the front row three times.
He drove with Andretti from 2012-14 and posted three wins. He was part of the Arrow McLaren SP team (formerly called Schmidt Peterson Motorsports) from 2015-19 but was released in November.
"I can't wait to work with this group again and to get back behind the wheel of an IndyCar," the 33-year-old Hinchcliffe said in a team statement.
He becomes the sixth driver for Andretti Autosports, joining Ryan Hunter-Reay, Alexander Rossi, Marco Andretti, Zach Veach and Colton Herta.
"We're really pleased to be able to welcome James back into the Andretti team," chairman and CEO Michael Andretti said. "He has, for sure, been knocked down a few times by this sport and to be able to help him meet the challenge is really special. We had a lot of fun, and some great successes with James when he was part of the team before, and we're really looking forward to picking up where we left off."
Hinchcliffe has six career wins.
