Relegation on the line for Spurs vs. Everton

Tottenham Hotspur can guarantee Premier League survival on Sunday when they host an Everton side whose manager would enjoy helping Spurs’ relegation rivals instead.

Tottenham (9-17-11, 38 points) already had one chance to guarantee their place in the league next season on Tuesday but lost 2-1 at London rivals Chelsea.

But manager Roberto De Zerbi’s squad should still feel hopeful given how the final day of the Premier League regular season sets up.

A win would secure their place no matter what West Ham does at Leeds United. Practically speaking, a draw also would do the job, since the Hammers begin the weekend two points back and a 12 -goal scoring differential.

“We can’t change our style, our mentality,” De Zerbi said. “I think also we have the qualities and the players good enough to play a good game and to stay up.”

And since the Italian De Zerbi took over, Spurs have still earned eight points from their six games, with their two losses both coming by a single goal on the road against opponents competing for European places.

“We can’t change our style, our mentality,” De Zerbi said. “I think also we have the qualities and the players good enough to play a good game and to stay up.”

Richarlison pulled a second-half goal back for Spurs in the loss at Chelsea, setting up a dramatic final 15 minutes. It was the Brazilian’s 11th goal of the campaign — and his second in three games — and he also had the assist inthe Spurs’ 1-0 win over Wolves on April that was the club’s first in the league in 2026.

Everton (13-14-10, 49 points) enter in 12th place with little left that is tangible play for. Technically, the Toffees could finish as high as eighth with a victory and a lot of help elsewhere. Realistically, that’s extraordinarily unlikely after their 3-1 home loss to Sunderland last Sunday.

But manager David Moyes could lend his former club a hand with a season-ending away victory. Scottsman spent portions of seven years as West Ham boss, helping the club to the 2022-2023 UEFA Europa Conference League crown, only the club’s second-ever major European trophy.

He departed a season later and took the Everton job for a second time in early 2025, but clearly still has a connection to the East London outfit.

“I’d love to keep West Ham in the league if I can,” Moyes said on Friday.

He added: “It’s more important I get Everton that top finish and we get a few more million ?pounds because of our league position.”
