Aaron Judge helps Yankees knock off Reds in 10 innings

Aaron Judge collected four hits, reached base five times and hit a tiebreaking two-strike single with one out in the 10th inning as the visiting New York Yankees rallied for a 7-4 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday afternoon.

Greg Allen, who was added to the roster when Aaron Hicks was designated for assignment, replaced Ben Rortvedt as the automatic runner and easily advanced on Gleyber Torres’ flyout.

The Reds then pulled their infield in and Judge lined a 0-2 pitch from Ian Gibaut (3-1) over third baseman Nick Senzel’s leaping try into left field.

Anthony Rizzo, who hit a tying single in New York’s three-run fifth, padded the lead with a two-run homer down the right field line for his 24th career homer in Cincinnati.

Judge posted his seventh career four-hit game and fifth since the start of last season. He singled in his first at-bat, hit an RBI single off the base of the left field in the third, an RBI double in the fifth when he was thrown out trying to score the go-ahead run on Rizzo’s single.

Clay Holmes (2-2) struck out Jonathan India on a check swing with a runner on first to send the game to extra innings. India exited after that at-bat due to fouling a pitch off his left knee.

Holmes’ outing occurred after Ron Marinaccio and Michael King pitched two scoreless innings apiece after rookie starter Jhony Brito allowed four runs and four hits in four innings.

Ryan Weber pitched a perfect 10th for his second career save as the Yankees won their third straight and for the 13th time in 18 games since they were 15-15 on May 1.

Jake Fraley and Spencer Steer hit RBI singles before Luke Maile hit a two-run homer in the fourth to give Cincinnati a 4-1 lead.

Isiah Kiner-Falefa homered off Luke Weaver to start the three-run fifth and made a stumbling catch in the sixth against Wil Myers.

Weaver allowed four runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings. He struck out four and walked none.
