Cal Raleigh smacks walk-off grand slam as M’s sink White Sox

White Sox, Mariners

Cal Raleigh hit a grand slam with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Seattle Mariners rallied from a four-run deficit to defeat the visiting Chicago White Sox 8-4 on Monday night.

Dominic Canzone also went deep for the Mariners, who were blanked by White Sox starter Erick Fedde for the first seven innings.

Luis Robert Jr. and Corey Julks homered for the White Sox, who dropped to 5-27 on the road.

Mariners reliever Ryne Stanek (4-1) gave up two singles but struck out the other three batters in the top of the ninth to earn the victory.

In the bottom of the inning, J.P. Crawford and Josh Rojas drew one-out walks off Jordan Leasure (0-2) before Julio Rodriguez lined a single to left to load the bases. Raleigh then hit a 2-0 fastball deep to right for his team-leading 12th homer of the season.

The Mariners rallied from a 4-0 deficit with four runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Canzone led off with a homer to center, spoiling Fedde’s shutout bid and ending the right-hander’s night. Fedde allowed the one run on five hits in seven-plus innings, walking one and striking out four.

Seattle quickly loaded the bases against reliever Michael Kopech, but Kopech fanned Rodriguez and Raleigh, with Mariners manager Scott Servais getting ejected for arguing a called third strike on the latter.

Mitch Haniger followed with a two-run single and Luke Raley added an RBI single to tie things at 4-all.

Starter Logan Gilbert went 6 2/3 innings for the Mariners, giving up three runs and six hits. He didn’t issue a walk and struck out eight.

Robert opened the scoring in the sixth, blasting his fifth homer of the season to also bring home Korey Lee. Lee led off the inning with a double.

The White Sox tacked on a run in the seventh after Andrew Vaughn began the inning with a double to left. With one out, Lenyn Sosa lined a single to center, scoring Vaughn to make it 3-0.

Julks cranked a solo shot in the eighth.
