Josh Jung lifts Rangers past Athletics with walk-off HR in 10th

Josh Jung

Josh Jung hit a three-run walk-off home run in the 10th inning to lift the Texas Rangers to a 6-4 win against the visiting Oakland Athletics on Sunday in Arlington, Texas.

With the Rangers trailing 4-2 and Oakland’s All-Star closer Mason Miller (1-2) on the mound, Adolis Garcia drove in automatic runner Marcus Semien with a two-out single to pull within one. After Travis Jankowski replaced Garcia as pinch runner and Wyatt Langford drew a walk, Jung belted a shot into the right field seats.

Garcia went 3-for-5 with two RBIs.

The A’s went ahead 4-2 in the top of the 10th inning off reliever Matt Festa (3-1). Automatic runner Shea Langeliers scored on Seth Brown’s triple, and Brown came in on Zack Gelof’s double.

Oakland tied it 2-2 in the eighth inning. Gelof knocked a two-out double to right field and Max Schuemann brought him in with a single to center.

Leading 2-1 in the sixth, Texas threatened to add to its lead off reliever Ross Stripling. Garcia opened it with a double, Langford followed with a single and Carson Kelly drew a one-out walk to load the bases.

Stripling got out of the jam, getting Justin Foscue to ground into a forceout with Garcia tagged out at home, and Leody Taveras lined out to center field to end the inning.

The Rangers took a 1-0 lead in the first. Corey Seager doubled and Garcia drove him in with a two-out double.

In the third, Foscue drew a walk to lead off against Oakland starter Mitch Spence. After a walk to Semien moved Foscue to second and he took third on a fielder’s choice, Foscue scored on Josh Smith’s single to make it 2-0.

The A’s put runners on base in each of the first four innings but couldn’t get more than one extra-base hit, with Lawrence Butler extending his hit streak to 11 games with a double in the third.

They finally broke through in the fifth.

Jacob Wilson led off with a double, advanced to third on Butler’s single and Brent Rooker brought him home with a single to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Butler and Rooker, the first two batters in the order, each went 4-for-5 for Oakland.
