The Philadelphia Phillies placed outfielder Austin Hays on the 10-day injured list because of a left hamstring strain in one of the team’s multiple roster moves Friday.
The Phillies also selected the contracts of outfielder Cal Stevenson and right-hander Max Lazar from Triple-A Lehigh Valley, optioned lefty Kolby Allard to Triple-A and designed first baseman Darick Hall and right-hander Max Castillo for assignment.
Hays, who was traded from the Baltimore Orioles to Philadelphia on July 26, was injured Thursday while running out a grounder in the third inning of a 9-4 win over the host Los Angeles Dodgers.
He is batting .256 with four homers and 18 RBIs in 73 combined games combined games for the Phillies and Orioles. An American League All-Star in 2023, the 29-year-old is a career .262 hitter with 67 homers and 246 RBIs in 567 games for the Orioles (2017, 2019-24) and Phillies.
Stevenson, 27, was batting .307 with seven homers, 39 RBIs and 27 stolen bases for Lehigh Valley. He had a .420 on-base percentage and a .488 slugging percentage. He is a career .145 major league hitter (10-for-69) in 29 games for the Oakland Athletics (2022) and San Francisco Giants (2023).
Lazar, 25, is set to make his major league debut. He is 2-3 with 13 saves, a 1.79 ERA, nine walks and 53 strikeouts in 40 1/3 innings over 34 games combined this season at the Double-A and Triple-A levels.
Allard, who turns 27 on Tuesday, was 1-0 with a 3.46 ERA, two walks and eight strikeouts in 13 innings over three games (two starts) for Philadelphia.
Hall, 29, batted .248 with 12 homers and 56 RBIs in 80 games at Lehigh Valley. He played in 2022-23 for Philadelphia and batted .226 (43-for-190) in 59 games.
Castillo, 25, was 0-6 with a 7.62 ERA, 25 walks and 40 strikeouts in 52 innings over 14 games (13 starts) at Triple-A this season. He played parts of two seasons for the Toronto Blue Jays (2022) and Kansas City Royals (2022-23) and was 0-3 with a 5.43 ERA, 24 walks and 47 strikeouts in 59 2/3 innings over 21 games (six starts).
