Carlos Narvaez’s RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning drove in David Hamilton with the game-winning run as the Boston Red Sox beat the visiting New York Yankees 2-1 Friday night in the opener of a three-game series.

Narvaez’s game-winning hit came against Tim Hill (3-2) with two outs in the inning.

The Yankees trailed 1-0 until Aaron Judge hit a solo home run off Garrett Crochet with one out in the ninth. Judge, who has 26 home runs this season, had struck out in his three previous at-bats.

Crochet was pulled after Judge’s home run, which came on his 107th pitch. Crochet allowed four hits, walked one and struck out seven.

Garrett Whitlock (5-0) earned the win for pitching a scoreless 10th.

New York manager Aaron Boone was ejected in the top of the 10th inning when a ball hit by DJ LeMahieu was ruled foul and the call was not overturned after being reviewed. LeMahieu was then ejected after making the third out of the inning.

Anthony Volpe, New York’s automatic runner in the 10th, made the first out in the inning when he was caught stealing third base. He was originally called safe, but that call was overturned on an appeal.

The Red Sox scored the game’s first run in the second. Trevor Story singled, stole second and scored on a Ceddanne Rafaela single.

Rob Refsnyder, Romy Gonzalez and Rafael Devers also had singles for Boston, which was held to six hits.

New York starter Ryan Yarbrough was lifted with two outs in the fifth. He gave up a run on four hits, walked three and struck out three.

Volpe collected two of New York’s four hits.
