Atlanta United F Luiz Araujo set for transfer to Flamengo

Atlanta United forward Luiz Araujo is set to make a permanent transfer next month to Brazilian club Flamengo.

Araujo, 26, arrived in Atlanta from French Ligue 1 champion Lille in 2021 and has scored 11 goals with 12 assists in 56 regular-season games (51 starts). He came on a $12 million transfer that included $2 million in incentives.

According to The Athletic, the current transfer to Flamengo is for $10 million.

Araujo has three goals and two assists in 13 games (12 starts) this season. He will remain with Atlanta United through the team’s June 24 game against the New York Red Bulls, giving him six more games remaining with the Five Stripes.

“Ultimately, this was an opportunity that suits both parties well and gives us enough time to plan and evaluate as we’ll be actively seeking reinforcements in the summer transfer window,” Atlanta United vice president and technical director Carlos Bocanegra said. “We wish Luiz the best of luck at Flamengo and in his future endeavors.”
