Petar Musa set up the first goal and added a second-half brace Saturday night as FC Dallas secured a rare home win, blanking St. Louis City SC 3-0 in Frisco, Texas.
Musa continued a torrid midseason run that has seen him tally seven goals in the last seven fixtures and a team-high 11 for the season. It also enabled Dallas (6-10-7, 25 points) to earn just its second result in 11 home matches this year, moving it within four points of San Jose and Real Salt Lake for the final Western Conference playoff spot.
St. Louis (4-13-6, 18 points) fell to 2-13-4 since going unbeaten in its first four matches. It was outshot 8-1 in the first half and placed only two shots on frame for the night, allowing goalie Maarten Paes to post Dallas’ third clean sheet of the year.
The only goal Dallas needed came in the 24th minute via Kaick. The 19-year-old Brazilian, acquired via transfer in March, made his first MLS goal memorable. Musa fed him at the top of the box and Kaick wired a shot past Roman Burki into the upper left corner.
Musa, who tallied twice Wednesday night in a 2-2 draw at San Jose, then matched that late in the match to give Dallas breathing room. He chested a long pass to the ground near the top of the box in the 79th minute, dribbled around a defender who had played himself out of position and finished clinically into the lower right corner.
In the 88th minute, Musa converted from the spot after a foul in the box, slotting a shot into the lower left corner just past the outstretched Burki.
St. Louis’ best chances to score came about midway through the second half, but Paes was able to deny Tomas Ostrak and Joao Klauss on shots in the box. That capped an eight-minute stretch that saw the visitors squeeze off six of their 16 shots for the match.
Burki finished with seven saves.
