Don’t call it a throwback?
Jimmie Johnson has eight career wins at Charlotte and is 16-1 (+1600 at DraftKings and +1800 at FanDuel) to claim the Coca-Cola 600 on Sunday afternoon at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Johnson’s retirement tour in 2020 gives him multiple chances to win in North Carolina. He last won at the track in 2016.
Alex Bowman is even with Johnson at +1600 at DraftKings but is 12-1 (+1200) at FanDuel. Bowman has back-to-back top-10 finishes at Charlotte.
Kyle Busch is the favorite Sunday at +550 at DraftKings, narrowly ahead of Kevin Harvick and three-time Charlotte winner Martin Truex Jr., who are 6-1 (+600).
Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano are +800, ahead of Chase Elliott and Denny Hamlin (+900).
There are plenty of underdogs to consider. Noteworthy is the proximity of most drivers and teams to the Charlotte track, where regular testing and practice is permitted.
With two career victories here, Matt Kenseth is a decent value at 40-1 via DraftKings and FanDuel, but his last victory came in 2011 (also in 2000).
Austin Dillon won in Charlotte in 2017 and is available at 66-1 at DraftKings.
Ryan Newman has two races under his belt since his dramatic accident at Daytona in February. He also has two second-place finishes at Charlotte (2003, 2009) and might be worth a flier at 80-1.
