NASCAR Cup Series event rained out at Charlotte

NASCAR’s Alsco Uniforms 500 was rained out Wednesday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C.

The 205-lap Cup Series event was rescheduled for 7 p.m. ET on Thursday.

It’s slated for 313 miles, or barely more than half as long as Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 on the same track. That race included a weather-related delay of more than an hour after it began, and the event concluded after midnight.

Brad Keselowski, who won three nights earlier, was set to start in the 20th position with the invert of the top 20 for the Alsco Uniforms 500.

Two Hendrick Motorsports teammates, polesitter William Byron and Alex Bowman, will start on the front row Thursday.

It’s the final event of four scheduled Cup series races slated across an 11-day period (now 12 days) as part of NASCAR’s return to action after a hiatus of more than two months because of the coronavirus pandemic.

After Thursday, the next scheduled Cup race comes Sunday afternoon at Bristol Motor Speedway in Tennessee. Because of Wednesday night’s postponement, the Xfinity Series race slated for Saturday in Bristol has been moved to Monday night.
