Balanced scoring pushes No. 12 Oregon past Stephen F. Austin

No. 12 Oregon led from start to finish behind 15 points from Brandon Angel in a 79-61 victory Sunday over Stephen F. Austin in a nonconference game at Eugene, Ore.

The balanced scoring for Oregon (10-1) included Jadrian Tracey and Supreme Cook each scoring 14 points and Nate Bittle netting 13 before fouling out. Angel added six rebounds and two steals, and Tracey chipped in seven boards and three steals

Matt Hayman led Stephen F. Austin (5-6) with 17 points and four steals, and Keon Thomas added 11 points, six rebounds and three steals.

Oregon reserve forward Kwame Evans Jr., who had eight points and five rebounds, was helped off the court to the locker room with 9:30 left in the game after sustaining a non-contact left knee injury. He did not return.

Stephen F. Austin, which has lost its last three games, cut the lead to 39-27 with 18:05 left.

Bittle responded with five straight points, including a 3-pointer. Evans’ jump shot with 10:42 left increased the lead to 55-34.

Cook scored six consecutive points, the last four on two dunks, to put the Ducks ahead 61-38 with 7:53 remaining.

The Ducks scored the game’s first six points and took an 18-4 lead with 11:20 left in the first half. Stephen F. Austin made just two of its first 13 shots from the field while Oregon was 6 of 10 while building the lead.

Oregon withstood committing 10 turnovers in the first half to lead 37-23 at the break.

The Ducks entered the game averaging 11 turnovers a game but finished with 19 turnovers.

Oregon took advantage of Stephen F. Austin’s nine turnovers in the first half, outscoring the Lumberjacks 11-2 in points off turnovers. The Lumberjacks finished with 22 turnovers.

The Ducks outscored the Lumberjacks 26-11 overall in points off turnovers.

Angel had 11 points on 3-of-3 shooting from the field, including a 3-pointer, and he was 4 of 5 from the free-throw line, to lead the Ducks at halftime.

Stephen F. Austin made 25.6 percent of its shots from the field in the first half, including 3 of 16 from beyond the arc. The Lumberjacks finished shooting 39.7 percent from the field and 15 percent in 3-point attempts.

Oregon shot 51 percent from the field and finished at 36.8 percent from beyond the arc.
