Jayden Epps scored 20 points and sank the game-winning layup with five seconds left as Georgetown beat Villanova 75-73 on Tuesday in Washington.
Micah Peavy hit five 3-pointers and scored 19 points and Jordan Burks had 14 points as Georgetown (17-13, 8-11 Big East) swept the Wildcats in a two-game regular-season series for the first time since 1992-93.
Eric Dixon scored 24 points — all in the second half — as Villanova (18-13, 11-9) completed the regular season. Jordan Longino added 17 points as the Wildcats lost at Georgetown for the first time since the 2018-19 season.
Georgetown, which made 14 of 31 3-point attempts (45.2 percent), ended the game on a 15-4 run after trailing 69-60 with 3:43 left after an Enoch Boakye dunk. The Hoyas went on a 7-0 run to close within 69-67 on a Drew Fielder dunk.
Dixon ended the Hoyas’ spurt with two free throws. Burks made a layup on the other end to get Georgetown to within 71-69 with 1:58 left. Two Jayden Epps free throws tied the game at 71-all with 1:13 to go, and Burks gave the Hoyas a 73-71 lead with 37 seconds left before Jhamir Brickus tied it at 73 nine seconds later.
Early in the second half, Georgetown built a nine-point lead, but Dixon led Villanova back. The Hoyas were up 46-37 with 13:57 remaining after a Peavy 3-pointer. Wooga Poplar responded with 3-pointer before Dixon scored Villanova’s next 13 points.
Georgetown started the second half on an 8-0 run to take a 37-29 lead after a Peavy 3-pointer. Dixon responded on the other end with his first basket of the game, a 3-pointer with 18:04 remaining to bring Villanova.
The game was tied at 29 at the half.
Dixon, came into Tuesday after back-to-back 30-plus point games, finished 8 of 19 from the field.
Georgetown won the first meeting 64-63 on Jan. 14 on Villanova’s campus.
