Top 25 roundup: No. 2 Purdue holds off No. 6 Wisconsin

Lance Jones had 20 points and Zach Edey posted a double-double as second-ranked Purdue held off No. 6 Wisconsin 75-69 in a showdown for the Big Ten lead Sunday in Madison, Wis.

Edey had a game-high 13 rebounds. He scored 13 of his 18 points in the second half for Purdue (21-2, 10-2 Big Ten). Braden Smith added 19 points and Fletcher Loyer 12 for the Boilermakers, who led the entire second half to retain the top spot with their seventh straight win.

Tyler Wahl had a season-high 20 points for Wisconsin (16-6, 8-3 Big Ten), which lost its second straight. AJ Storr had 14 points and Max Klesmit added 10 for Wisconsin.

Chucky Hepburn pulled Wisconsin within 70-65 with a steal and layup with 28 seconds remaining. Purdue salted the game away at the foul line, along with Edey’s dunk with 14 seconds to go.

No. 11 Arizona 82, Stanford 71

Oumar Ballo had 18 points and 13 rebounds and the Wildcats turned up the defensive intensity after halftime to pull away from the Cardinal in Tucson, Ariz.

Caleb Love had 18 points, eight rebounds and seven assists for the Wildcats (17-5, 8-3 Pac-12), who outscored the Cardinal 48-26 after halftime. Arizona held Stanford (11-10, 6-5) to 28.1-percent shooting (9 of 32) from the floor in the second half.

Junior center Maxime Raynaud scored a career-high 29 points for Stanford, which was without its leading scorer Kanaan Carlyle (upper-body injury), who is averaging 14.3 points per game. Raynaud, who entered the game having made 8 of 28 3-pointers, was 5 of 6 from beyond the arc.

No. 14 Illinois 87, Nebraska 84 (OT)

The Fighting Illini squandered a 10-point lead in the final 3:29 of regulation, but maintained a narrow edge for the final four minutes of overtime to claim a Big Ten victory over the Cornhuskers in Champaign, Ill.

Coleman Hawkins produced 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists while Marcus Domask scored 19 points as Illinois (17-5, 8-3 Big Ten) pulled into a second-place tie in the conference with Wisconsin — 1 1/2 games behind Purdue.

Keisei Tominaga scored a career-high 31 points to pace Nebraska (16-7, 6-6). Rienk Mast posted 22 points and Juwan Gary added 12 points and 11 rebounds off the bench for Nebraska.
