Alex DeBrincat scores a pair as Red Wings take down Blues

Detroit Red Wings

Alex DeBrincat had two goals and an assist as the Detroit Red Wings defeated the visiting St. Louis Blues 6-1 Saturday for their fourth straight victory.

Michael Rasmussen and Patrick Kane had a goal and an assist for the Red Wings, who are 14-4-2 in 2024. Robby Fabbri and J.T. Compher also scored for Detroit and Lucas Raymond had two assists.

Alex Lyon made 22 saves to earn his 12th victory during the new year.

Rookie Zachary Bolduc scored his first NHL goal for the Blues, who suffered their fourth loss in their last six games.

St. Louis goaltender Jordan Binnington exited the game after allowing four goals on 14 first-period shots. Joel Hofer allowed two goals on 20 shots in relief.

The Red Wings broke out to a 3-0 lead in the first 5:24 of the game.

Kane scored off the rush 33 seconds into the game. DeBrincat burst up the right wing and sent a cross-ice pass to Shayne Gostisbehere, who sent the puck back to the right side to give the trailing Kane an open net to shoot into.

The Red Wings doubled their lead with another rush goal. This time Rasmussen converted Raymond’s pass on a 2-on-1 break.

Detroit struck again off the rush 63 seconds later. Blues winger Kasperi Kapanen tried to clear the puck from the crease, but he fired it off Fabbri and into the net.

The Red Wings made it 4-0 with a power-play goal with 59 seconds left in the period, as DeBrincat walked in from the left circle.

On his 21st birthday, Bolduc got the Blues on the board with 7:32 left in the second period. He cut to the low slot and converted Brandon Saad’s centering pass.

But the Red Wings pushed their second-period lead to 6-1. Compher scored with a redirection off his skate, then DeBrincat converted a cross-ice pass from Kane off the rush.
