Jason Robertson’s hat trick sparks Stars to win over Oilers

Stars, Oilers

Jason Robertson posted a natural hat trick and Roope Hintz collected three assists to lead the visiting Dallas Stars to a 4-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday.

Wyatt Johnston also scored and Thomas Harley logged two assists for the Stars (46-21-4, 96 points), who have claimed points in six consecutive games (4-0-2) and sit six points behind the first-place Winnipeg Jets in the Central Division.

Dallas goaltender Jake Oettinger made 42 saves. His shutout streak ended at 130 minutes, 51 seconds.

Corey Perry and Adam Henrique both collected one goal and one assist and Zach Hyman added a goal for the Oilers, who were without their two top scorers, Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, due to injuries. Evan Bouchard collected two assists for Edmonton (41-25-5, 87 points), which sits third in the Pacific Division.

Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner stopped 17 of 21 shots before leaving in the middle of the third period after Dallas forward Mikko Rantanen’s knee hit him in the head during play. Calvin Pickard made three saves in relief.

It is the second time in three games Skinner left a game in the third period after being hit in the head during a collision.

Despite the Oilers compiling a 14-5 edge in shots in the first period, Johnston opened the scoring at the 14:26 mark by lifting a shot from in close during a breakaway.

Robertson doubled the lead at 5:01 of the second period when he was on the spot at the doorstep to chip home a Hintz feed for his 30th of the season.

Robertson extended the lead just past the midway point of the middle period when he elected to shoot on an odd-man rush.

He completed his fifth career hat trick at 15:30 of the second frame by neatly deflecting Harley’s point shot for a power-play tally.

The Oilers did not go away, though. Perry put them on the board at 9:30 of the third period when he converted a rebound chance for a power-play goal.

Henrique added another man-advantage marker at 13:54 with a one-timer from the left faceoff dot.

Hyman made it a one-goal game with 85 seconds remaining in regulation by converting a rebound with the goalie pulled for an extra attacker, but it was too little, too late.
