The New York Jets downgraded injured kicker Greg Zuerlein to out for Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Multiple media outlets reported on Saturday that the Jets (1-0) will sign kicker Austin Seibert to play against the Cowboys (1-0).
Zuerlein injured his groin in practice on Thursday, prompting the team to bring in three kickers on Friday.
Zuerlein made all three of his field-goal attempts in New York’s 22-16 overtime victory over the Buffalo Bills on Monday.
Zuerlein, 35, is in his 12th NFL season. He re-signed with the Jets in March after serving as the team’s kicker in 2022. He played for the Cowboys in 2020 and 2021.
Seibert, 26, was a fifth-round pick of the Cleveland Browns in 2019. He made 44 of 55 field goal attempts and converted 55 of 61 extra point tries in 30 career games with the Browns, Cincinnati Bengals and Detroit Lions.
