Jayla Everett sank a tiebreaking driving layup with 0.3 seconds left to give St. John’s a 66-64 win over Purdue on Thursday in a women’s NCAA Tournament First Four game at Columbus, Ohio.
The Boilermakers could not get off a shot in the remaining time.
Everett finished with a team-high 20 points for the Red Storm (23-8), who will progress as a No. 11 seed to oppose No. 6 seed North Carolina on Saturday in Columbus.
Unique Drake sank four 3-pointers and scored 16 points for St. John’s, which led by 15 points in the third quarter. Purdue pulled even with 3:10 left in the fourth on a layup by Lasha Petree, capping a 14-2 run to start the final period.
Petree scored 20 points and grabbed eight rebounds while Caitlyn Harper had 14 points for the Boilermakers (19-11).

Tennessee Tech (23-9) pulled in front for good in the second quarter and led by as many as 14 en route to its eighth consecutive victory. The Golden Eagles move on as a No. 16 seed to meet top-seeded Indiana on Saturday on the Hoosiers’ home floor.
Jordan Brock put up 16 points for Tennessee Tech, and Peyton Carter added 12.
Ariana Vanderhoop scored 17 points for Monmouth (18-16), while Lucy Thomas contributed 16 and Bri Tinsley had 11.
