Teams for the debut season of the TGL continue to take shape with Sahith Theegala named to the Los Angeles Golf Club, Golfweek reported Wednesday.
Theegala joins another Los Angeles-area native on the squad after Collin Morikawa already was named to Los Angeles Golf Club in advance of the virtual simulator golf league Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy helped found.
Two more players will fill out the Los Angeles GC roster.
Six teams will compete in the league, which is set to debut in January and is in partnership with the PGA Tour. TGL matchups will be broadcast on ESPN.
In addition to Los Angeles Golf Club, the five other teams are Atlanta Drive Golf Club, Boston Common Golf, Jupiter Links Golf Club, TGL New York and TGL San Francisco.
The Atlanta and Boston teams already have a set roster. Atlanta Drive GC will consist of Justin Thomas, Billy Horschel, Patrick Cantlay and Lucas Glover. Boston Common Golf will include McIlroy, Keegan Bradley, Adam Scott and Tyrrell Hatton.
Woods is set to compete for Jupiter Links Golf Club. No other roster spots have been set.
Other TGL participants are Wyndham Clark, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood, Rickie Fowler, Max Homa, Tom Kim, Kevin Kisner, Min Woo Lee, Shane Lowry, Justin Rose, Xander Schauffele and Cameron Young. Jon Rahm had committed but backed out earlier this month.
Team owners include Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank, the Fenway Sports Group, Woods, tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams, New York Mets owner Steve Cohen and the Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry, among others.
Head-to-head matches will take place on virtual courses Monday and Tuesday nights at a venue in Palm Beach, Fla.
TGL was examining damage to its Palm Beach facility on Wednesday after an overnight power failure caused the bubble roof to partially deflate. The league told Sports Business Journal that there were no injuries.
TGL said plans for a Jan. 9 start are still on, but also allowed that it was “too early to determine the impact on our timelines.”
