crosby

Sidney Crosby had a goal and three assists, Bryan Rust posted two goals and an assist and the Pittsburgh Penguins outlasted the visiting Philadelphia Flyers 7-6 on Sunday.

Rickard Rakell and Kris Letang each added a goal and an assist and Emil Bemstrom and Drew O’Connor each scored for the Penguins, who have won two straight.

Pittsburgh broke open a 4-4 game after 40 minutes, scoring three goals in the third period before holding off the Flyers’ comeback attempt. Goaltender Tristan Jarry finished with 15 saves.

Tyson Foerster had two goals and an assist, Travis Sanheim scored twice, Scott Laughton had a goal and two assists and Cam York chipped in a goal and an assist for the Flyers, who have lost two straight. Philadelphia goaltender Cal Petersen made 25 saves.

The Flyers lost defenseman Jamie Drysdale after he took a hit by Pittsburgh’s Jansen Harkins in the second period. The Penguins’ Rust left in the third after a neutral-zone collision.

Philadelphia opened the scoring at 2:11 of the first on Sanheim’s tip-in.

Crosby tied it at 9:38 off a rebound, and Rust gave the Penguins a 2-1 lead on a tip-in at the 17:15 mark.

Foerster tied it 55 seconds into the second. On his backhand, he tucked the puck inside the right post.

On a power play at 11:15 of the second, Rust gave Pittsburgh a 3-2 lead on a snap shot from above the right hash marks.

Also on a power play, Bemstrom — making his Penguins debut — popped a shot off Petersen’s right pad at 13:38 of the second to increase it to 4-2.

Sanheim struck again at 16:33 of the second from the right edge of the slot to cut it to 4-3.

Laughton scored short-handed 1:03 later, tying the game when he deposited a rebound after Noah Cates’ wraparound attempt.

At 6:41 of the third, and with the Penguins short-handed, O’Connor swept a sharp-angle shot inside the right post to make it 5-4, and Rakell scored on a mirror shot inside the left post at 8:38.

York’s goal from above the left hash marks at 10:10 of the third cut the Flyers’ deficit to 6-5. But Letang’s shot from the right point at 15:13 made it 7-5, before Foerster’s power-play goal with 2:03 left closed the scoring.
